Lenovo IdeaPad U165

Lenovo Philippines has released a new ultraportable laptop in the Philippine market, the Lenovo Ideapad U165. The Ideapad U165 has an 11.6" screen, is less than an inch thick and weighs in a 3.1 pounds. What makes this laptop interesting is that it is powered by the newer dual core AMD Athlon Neo K325 (1.3 GHz, 2mb L2 cache), as opposed to  the single core AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 (1.60GHz, 512KB) and the newer AMD Athlon II Neo K125 1.7GHz single core CPU found in most of the low cost AMD ultraportable laptops in the market.

As we noted in our article on the Acer Aspire One 0721 and Asus Eee PC 1215T, the low cost low powered AMD Athlon II Neo K125 1.7GHz is pretty fast. The dual core AMD Athlon Neo K325 is much faster. How fast? According to the Pass Mark CPU benchmarks, its as fast as a low end Core Duo T2050 mobile processor and faster than a low end AMD Athlon 64 X2. Granted, these CPU's are four years old, but is gives an idea of how fast these "netbook" processors are becoming. In any event, it is much faster than any Atom processor in existence (it soundly beats the Atom D525).

This laptop is priced at about Php28,000 which makes it almost as expensive as the Intel Core i3 powered Acer TimelineX 1830T. But it does have some advantages over the Acer 1830T. It comes pre-installed with a higher version of Windows, has a larger 500GB hard drive and for graphics is has the ATI 4200, which has full Blue-ray Support and is faster than the Intel HD graphics card on the Acer 1830T. Like the Acer 1830T, the Ideapad U165 also has an HDMI port to match its HD capable graphics card. HD out is a must these days.

YugaTech Philippines has a review of the recently released Acer Aspire One 1551 which has similar specifications to the Ideapad U165.  If you are interested in this laptop, we recommend that you check out that review.
