The Acer Aspire One 522 AMD Fusion netbook is here

Techie.com.ph has the heads up on the Acer Aspire One 522. It's here! Why are we so excited about the release of the Acer Aspire One 522. Simple it is the first netbook powered by AMD's C-50 Accelerated Processing Unit. The AMD C-50 APU, is a dual-core processor clocked at 1.0GHz rated with only 9W TDP. The chip integrates a Radeon HD 6250 graphics processing clocked at 280MHz and supports DirectX 11. This allows the netbook to play HD content.

To match is graphics prowess Acer fitted a high resolution 10.1-inch 720P (1280 x 720) screen on the Acer Aspire One 522. The unit comes spec' with a 2GB of RAM, Wireless b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. Most importantly, it has HDMI out.

The Guru of High Tech benchmarked the AMD C-50 against the Intel Atom N550 paired with a GMA 3510 chipset. In two words, the AMD solution blow away the Intel solution.Techie.com.ph reports that they witness it playing HD content, altough no indication was made as to whether is was playing 720P or 1080P content. Battery life is supposedly about 5 hours with a 6-cell 4400 mAh battery.

Best part, is the price. It will retail for a low Php17,990. I wonder what this will do for the prices of other netbooks. Android 3.0 is still a few months off, and until Acer can release their on tablet, they need netbooks like this to keep them in the game.

Now if Acer released a 11.6-inch version of this thing, it would be near perfect.

Update: The Acer Aspire One 522 has hit the shelves at the promised price
