Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300

Phones like the Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300 elicit a mixed reaction. On the one hand that make the Android operating system for more users. On the other hand the small low resolution displays often leave a less than favorable experience of the Android operating system.

The Galaxy Pocket appears to be Samsung's replacement for the Samsung Galaxy Y. At least it does not make sense to sell both side-by-side. The Galaxy Pocket is actually a downgraded version of the Galaxy Y, which cures one of the main limitations of the Galaxy Y.

The Galaxy Pocket has a 2.8-inch display, even smaller than the one on the Galaxy Y. The HSDPA radio has also been downgraded to a 3.6 Mbps unit. On the other hand unlike the Galaxy Y whose limited 180 MB of internal storage limited its utility (not all apps can be moved to the MicSD card storage), the Galaxy Pocket has 3 GB of internal storage (we do not know how much is user available at this time, but it should be more than 1GB).

  • Android 2.3
  • 2.8-inch (240 x 320) display
  • 3GB internal storage, user expandable via a MicroSD card
  • 832 MHz single core processor
  • 2 MP primary camera
  • No secondary camera
  • QVGAp video capture
  • HSDPA 3.6 Mbps connectivity
  • 1200 mAh battery
Priced at Php5,500 it is just priced just a little bit lower than the Samsung Galaxy Y.

At this price range, I would recommend the Smart Communications Netphone 701 with its 3.5-inch (480 x 800) display whose main weakness is limited internal storage. If internal storage is a necessity for you, the LG Optimus L3 E400 is a better choice with a larger 3.2-inch display.
