Lenovo ideapad S405

Two months ago we already took a look at the low cost slim and light "Ultrabook like" laptops from Lenovo, the 13.3-inch S300 and the 14-inch S400.  These two laptops are both just 0.8-inches thin and weigh in a just under 4 pounds. The S300 costs just Php21,995 without an OS, and the S400 comes in at Php24,995 without an OS.

Lenovo has released an AMD variant of its S series ideapad, the Lenovo ideapad S405, this time powered by an AMD A6-4455M accelerated processing unit which features AMD Radeon 7450M grpahics. This one is price higher at Php27,995, but includes a Windows 8 license. The other specifications are the same with a 500 GB hard drive, USB 3.0, card reader, HDMI out, Bluetooth and WiFi. The S405 comes with less RAM than the S400, with only 2 GB instead of 4GB.

The AMD A6-445M has decent power for everyday tasks with PassMark CPU Benchmark of 1421 points.  This is a bit slower than the Intel Core i3 2367M. While I do have PassMark CPU Benchmarks for this CPU it should be at about the 1700-1800 point range.

The Intel powered S400 is my favorite among the three, but if you prefer an AMD version the S405 is worth a look.
