Sony Xperia TX - Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place

The Sony Xeria TX is now available in the Philippines, selling for as low as Pgp22,900 with an official Sony Warranty. The Sony Xperia TX is priced right for what it offers, still I cannot get all too excited about it since it does not come with LTE.

The Sony Xperia TX is 4.55-inch Android smartphone with a 720p (720 x 1280) display. At the price it is being sold at, it directly competes with the Google Nexus 4, and I will take a look at this new handset in comparison with the Nexus 4.

The Sony Xperia TX comes with a dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Krait processor and 1 GB of RAM. This essentially half as powerful as the quad core Qualcomm Krait and 2 GB of RAM you find on the Nexus 4. The Sony Xperia TX comes out of the box with Android 4.0.4, Ice Crean Sandwich, with a Android 4.1. Jelly Bean upgrade promised. Android 4.2.2 is already seeding out to the Nexus 4. Battery life of both phones is about the same.

What the Sony Xperia TX offers over the Nexus 4 is a better camera and more storage. The Sony Xperia TX comes with 16 GB internal storage expandable via a microSD card slot. The Nexus 4 has 16 GB of non-expandable internal storage. Still, it is a very hard phone to recommend.

For Php1,000 more you can get the Sony Xperia V. The Sony Xperia V has a smaller 4.3-inch display, but essentially gives you all the features of the Sony Xperia TX, plus LTE.

Needless to say, while Sony Xperia TX is a very nice phone, it will need a serious price drop before we can recommend it. At Php22,000 to Php25,000, the Google Nexus 4 and Sony Xperia V are still my recommendations.
